Eco
Travel
Eco travel is a new entrant in the travel
vocabulary and is travel based on awareness of
the ecology. It encompasses visiting places while
preserving the natural heritage as well as contributing to the
economic growth of the region.
Eco travel is fast becoming the buzzword
in the holiday travel industry. We the people are the
cause for emission of harmful gases into the environment, and
the extra flying, driving, and other transportation we use
while on holidays definitely increases the amount of emissions.
Things like littering, and over-walking the natural areas,
and building resorts, roads and trails, all also
contribute to degradation of areas we visit.
Eco travel is developing as a kind of
'awareness-travel', where you try to leave as little a
footprint as possible when you travel, and leave as little
waste as you can, and even get involved briefly with some
activity that can actually help the area you are
visiting.
Interest in Eco tours has increased,
as we are becoming more aware of environmental issues
like recycling and vehicle emissions. When you take an eco tour
your vacation will make a difference to the health of the
planet. Maybe a small difference... but if every traveller made
a small difference, that adds up to a huge difference
planetwide, so isn't it worth doing your little bit, even while
you travel?
Consider various aspects to be sure that the
holiday you are planning is socially and environmentally
friendly. An eco tourist in his own way can also help to
maintain the environment of the holiday destination. Even
while at a resort, ask for environmentally friendly,
recycled products. You can economize on the use of air
conditioning or heating, eat just what you need and don't
overindulge, don't waste water, don't have your sheets and
towels laundered more than you would at home.
Money that is earned from eco tourists
is many times used to support conservation projects and even
facilitates research on new technologies for reduction of
wastes and emissions.
Your choice and way of travel to a holiday
destination can have a positive effect on the global crisis in
total, and directly on the area you are visiting. Small changes
in the way we live can bring about big changes on our
planet.
